Owning a dog is a huge commitment and there are several things to consider before purchasing a dog or puppy.  Doing a little research now could save you problems the future.

You might start by asking yourself the following questions:

  • Do I want a small, medium size or large?
  • An active and energetic, or more calm and composed?
  • One that requires little grooming or more?
  • Are shedding or allergies an issue for me or other family members
  • What activities do I want my new dog to participate in with me?
  • Will he be a good fit with my family (good with children, other dogs or animals )and lifestyle (will the dog be at home alone most of the day)?
  • Do I have the time and patience needed to housebreak a puppy?
  • Do I have the budget needed for routine vet care (immunizations, products to prevent or control fleas, ticks and heartworm infections) or for more serious health problems.
  • Do I prefer a puppy or an adult, retired show dog, or older puppy?

We invite you to check with our breeders when researching the best breed for you.  Or, if you don’t see the breed that you are looking for, visit the American Kennel Club (see link below)

The Greater Monroe Kennel Club abides by the rules and regulations of the American Kennel Club and support their efforts in helping you find the pure-bred dog that is the best fit for you and your family.
